Why I Don’t Go to Paulette for Advice

Hello folks! It’s hard to believe it’s been another week since we’ve been together! I don’t know about y’all, but time is flying on this end! Someone hit the pause button and let’s chat…~smile~

Paulette called earlier. She had stumbled across a new psychology study out of Australia and she needed to share. “Are you too busy?” she asked. “Good, listen to this.” As usual, she began reading before I had a chance to answer.

“It isn’t necessary for women to actually try on bathing suits to get upset,” Paulette read, “Our studies have proven that just thinking about it can put women in a bad mood.” My friend snorted and I knew she was rolling her eyes.

“Seriously, Shellie, this is news? To who?”

I had to agree. This isn’t exactly earth-shattering research. We girls know our confidence is gonna take a direct hit trying on bathing suits. It’s why the outing ranks right up there with mammograms in our seasonal bucket list. I know some belles who prefer having red hot needles poked under their fingernails. Some women, that is. It’s worth noting this isn’t a one size fits all thing. There are plenty folks who are blessed with an unusually healthy self-confidence. I say this because I’ve already been to the beach this year and well, some people aren’t as concerned as they should be. Now, there’s an interesting study.

Paulette interrupted my thoughts, “There’s more,” she said, “Miss Expert offers suggestions on how to deal with dressing room distress. Her top three: avoid looking in the mirror— I kid you not. Bring a friend in with you— like that’s gonna happen. And make sure you’re in a good mood before entering said dressing room with a swimsuit.”

I told Paulette it sounded like our expert might have a sense of humor. “Maybe,” Paulette said. “But if that’s what she was going for, she stopped short. I can give your female audience a guaranteed mood-lifter.”

It was scary but you know I had to ask, “And that is…”

“Trip a skinny girl on your way in.”

“Paulette!” I said. “I do hope you’re joking!”

“Of course,” my friend said, laughing. “But I bet they’re smiling. I bet you are, too.”

She’s good, that Paulette. She’s bad, but she’s good…

Hugs,
Shellie
