Traveling and Travailing with Aunt Jerri and Uncle PJ

Hello folks, let’s chat… My friend’s Aunt Jerri and Uncle PJ are officially retired. They enjoy traveling and squabbling and they have stories stacked up from both, like the time Aunt Jerri lost her wedding rings. They back-tracked for miles and searched their vehicle high and low. Nothing. Aunt Jerri just knew those rings were history—until that last pit stop. She had barely assumed the throne when she heard an unmistakable “plink, plink.” Her rings! Aunt Jerri’s momentary delight was interrupted by a horrific thought. What if this was one of those automatic toilets that flush as soon as you stand up? Being a woman of ample girth, Aunt Jerri found it difficult to turn and check without accidentally sending her rings to China. Sitting very still, she considered the situation from every angle. Clearly, there was nothing to do but go fishing on the spot. This, in turn, led to a lengthy wash job.  By the time Aunt Jerri returned to the car, her man was fit to be tied and the squabbling resumed.

Curiously, around that same time Uncle PJ managed to misplace his sweetie in the middle of nowhere. It was nighttime. Aunt Jerri had been napping in the backseat while her man drove. She awoke to find they were parked at a convenience store. Aunt Jerri crawled out to tend to business without her purse or cell phone, expecting to find her man inside. It could’ve happened but alas, the two of ‘em passed like the proverbial ships in the dark.

Uncle PJ was miles down the road when his phone rang. Someone on the other end said he was calling on behalf of Uncle PJ’s wife. “Who is this?” Uncle PJ demanded, suspiciously. “My wife’s asleep in the back seat!” Then again, that person yelling in the background sounded mighty familiar. Uncle PJ reached behind him and checked the blanket. Ruh, roh!

The important thing here is that Uncle PJ did choose to turn around and face the music. No one ever said he got in a hurry about it.

Hugs, Shellie
