Choosing Christmas, Day Fourteen

Day Fourteen

December 16

Among the many beautiful components of Gabriel’s prophesy concerning the ministry of John the Baptist is this: God’s messenger said he would turn the hearts of the Fathers back to the children.

“And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

The disconnection between fathers and their children is devastating our homes today. The reasons are varied, and there is no single place to assign the blame, so this isn’t a discussion of why. Instead, it’s a call to recognize that Christmas can be exceptionally hard on broken families and the children who come from them. Let’s cry out to God and ask Him to draw the hearts of fathers to Jesus, that He might turn them back to their children.

14) Let’s use this space to pen the names of broken families in our own circle of family and friends. Let’s pray for these families and ask the Lord to give us ways to share the love of Jesus in their lives this Advent. Journal any ideas that come to mind.
