Little Mark Plans Ahead

Mrs. Bobbie is one of those precious unsung heroes that walk among us. She’s a school teacher and an exceptionally good one. She been teaching second grade over at the elementary school for the last twenty years at least. Mrs. Bobbie looks at her job as more than a profession. She considers it her life’s calling. She invests herself in every child, firmly believing that each child has the potential for greatness. The kids sense this, too, which results in them consistently performing up to her high expectations.

The other afternoon after school she was at her desk packing up some papers to take home and grade when she noticed Mark hanging around outside her door. She’s only had the child a couple weeks now but she’s already taken with him. Mrs. Bobbie says that Mark is a real sweetheart. She admits that he is currently more interested in the football game played at recess than anything happening in the classroom, but she’s quick to add that he’s well behaved and eager to please. You can rest assured Mrs. Bobbie will take those traits and make a good student out of him before it’s over.

“Mark,” Mrs. Bobbie called, “Are you waiting on me?”
Mark stuck his head around the door and nodded. “Yes’m.”
“Well, what is it, sweetie? You can come on in. I’m not that busy.”

Mark took a few steps inside the door. When Mrs. Bobbie smiled encouragingly, he took a few more and found his voice. “I was just wondering what I learned today,” he said.

Mrs. Bobbie frowned. “Why, that’s a strange question, isn’t it, Mark?”

“Yes’m,” Mark said, solemnly, “I think so, too. But that’s the first thing Daddy’s gonna ask me when he comes in tonight.”
