Larry Jr. the Actor

It’s hard to believe, but Larry Jr. is in his first year of college. Isn’t that crazy? I
remember when Larry Jr. was a love-sick high school sophomore mooning over that senior girl? That’s the year he took the drama class. Larry, who had previously been interested in two completely different stages: the football field and the basketball court. His parents couldn’t have been more surprised at his interest in the performing arts. As I remember that story, it was his always-in-the-know-little sister Savannah Grace who put two and two together, or as Savannah said it, one and one. Her name was Angela, an aspiring actress with stars in her eyes. Savannah took great delight in breaking the news to her parents and adding that Angela didn’t know Larry Junior was alive.

One evening Larry Jr’s dad picked him up from football practice. Larry listened while his tired but happy son gave a glowing report of how good their football team was gonna be that year. The boys had high hopes of even making it to the playoffs. Father and son went back and forth talking over the offense and defense and the other teams in the district. Then, because Larry is a big kidder, he just had to needle his boy a bit about his other new interest. “By the way, son, how about that little drama class of yours, how’s that going?”

Larry Jr looked out the window and shrugged. “Ah, it’s okay. They’ve already given out parts for some play we’re gonna do at Christmas.”

“What part did you get?” Larry asked, “The lead?”

“Nah,” Larry Jr said. “I play a bit part, some man who’s been married for twenty years.”

His daddy laughed “That’s okay,” he said. “An old married man, huh? Keep up the good work, son. Before you know it they may even give you a speaking part!”
