It’s Day 16 and I’m Grateful that Mercy Triumphs

It’s the 16th day of 30 Days of Thankfulness. I’m relishing the notes of gratitude I see my family and friends posting here, there, and everywhere and I love stumbling upon the words of grateful strangers. Sweet, funny, poignant words, letters from our laptops, strung together on our keyboards. When I see them, I hear James. I can’t help it. I see the Lord’s brother everywhere right now and I hear him in my head.

I’d say Blame in on Beth, as in Beth Moore, but that would sound like I’m holding this against her and nothing could be further from the truth.  Color me grateful for Mercy Triumphs, Beth’s study on the book of James. My church girls and I just finished it and we were a  weeping mess when it came time to say goodbye to James. I can’t recommend Mercy Triumphs enough– unless you want to stay exactly where you are.  If you’re sold on the status quo this study is not for you. I’m pretty sure there are only two ways to through Mercy Triumphs and not change: breeze lightly across the top or opt out early.

I’ll let James explain why I can’t contemplate gratitude without hearing the echo of Scripture:

If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.”

Those words color my thoughts on gratitude and begs the question. If we don’t live out our gratitude in actions, are we really thankful?

On this 16th of 30 Days of Thankfulness, I’m grateful that Mercy Triumphed at the Cross where man did his worst and God gave his best. If you’re looking for a place to live out your gratitude today, please consider participating in our annual gratitude drive at All Things Southern.  The funds go to Make Way Partners, an organization that rescues women and children from the evils of human trafficking — and then provides shelter, medical help, and education to help them move into a new life.

If you aren’t familiar with the drive, you can get up to speed here and here.

Hugs,
Shellie
