Have you been overcome?

Every good little believer wants to be an overcomer.  It’s one of the promises we like to stand on, right?

For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?  1 Jn 5:4–5

By definition to overcome means to endure, to get the better of, to conquer.

We understand through the Scriptures that Jesus got the victory over this world and the prince of it and His triumph is ours to share. Awesome! Color us overcomers! Except so many of us aren’t.

Ouch.

I’ve had this sentence playing around in my head for days now and I’m still processing it. I made this graphic a week ago.

Consider a few more definitions of the word overcome:

Seized, grasped, to have prevailed.

Have we been overcome by a worship song or a hymn here and there? Have we been taken by a verse from time to time? Or has the Son of God overcome us? Has he seized our stubborn wills, grasped our “this is my life” mentalities, and prevailed over our to-do lists?

We won’t be overcomers until we are overcome.

Overcome me, Lord Jesus. Start here.

Sometimes I try so hard to be in control that I don’t submit to being overcome by Christ. Isn’t it crazy that I can experience His unfailing love and yet still question if His way is the best way?

I really, really need this book! I want to learn how to be as spiritual as you; I have told many friends that you are the most Godly woman I “know”. And since my birthday AND wedding anniversary is March 15, this would be an amazing gift! Please and thank you! 🙂
