Don’t Let Him Out of Your Sight!

From the feedback I’m getting it appears I owe y’all a Dixie Belle story. I’m happy to oblige, soon as I set our story up for any new porchers who may not be familiar with Dixie’s antics.

Dixie is my spoiled chocolate lab who struggles with a tennis ball obsession. Well, actually, Dixie’s fine with it. I’m the one prone to taking issue with her addiction, like when she literally mopes outside my window, moaning with her ball held between her teeth.

Trying to tire Dixie out with a game of fetch is next to impossible. I generally have to sail her ball into the lake several times before she’ll even pause for a life-saving sip! Some time ago I told y’all about the day we were out of tennis balls and I substituted a heavy plastic ball I had discovered on hand. This ball had holes in it, and a bell, but Dixie didn’t care— not immediately. However, when she set it beside her on the water, as is her custom, and it began sinking, I knew there was trouble ahead. I was right. Soon as Dixie realized it was gone, she panicked. I thought she might drown before she recovered it. The dog dove under the water, repeatedly, until she found it.

Ever since that incident, when Dixie trots into the lake with her tennis ball, she stays in hyper alert mode. She’ll gulp water, grab her ball, gulp more water, and repeat, never letting it rest more than a few seconds on the surface. As I watched her this morning, I thought, “That’s me, Lord! You’ve become so precious to me that I can’t bear the thought of losing sight of you, even for a moment. What’s more, you did this! I didn’t shed your love abroad in my heart. You did it in response to my seeking You!” My point y’all, is that it will happen. If you’re seeking Him and this hasn’t become your experience, please don’t give up. He’ll become your everything when you seek Him with your all!

Hugs,
Shellie
