Choosing Christmas, Day Twenty

Day Twenty

December 22

While it was far from an exhaustive study, yesterday we looked at the last verses of Mary’s Magnificat. Today we’ll focus on the relationship between Elizabeth and Mary. Luke gives us one more piece of information on their visit, and its brevity is tantalizing: “Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home” (Luke 1:56).

That’s all the information we’re privy to about those next months; but seriously, can you imagine two females in their situations not sharing every detail of their miracles in progress? I can’t. I have to believe they replayed and compared every detail, starting with Gabriel’s role in both of their lives.

Perhaps Elizabeth said, “The first thing the angel said to Zacharias was not to be afraid”—and Mary responded, “Yeah, he said that to me too. It was easier said than done, dear cousin.”

Those conversations are pure conjecture on my part. The Messiah and His forerunner, their mothers and their conversations, all these miraculous events are going on under one roof. . .but the Bible keeps them private.

20) Can you think of any reason why God would conceal the details of Elizabeth and Mary’s visit? There’s no wrong answer.

Hugs,
Shellie
