Choosing Christmas, Day Eighteen

Day Eighteen

December 20

I’ve told you I’m trying to keep our daily readings brief, right? Toward that end, I thought I’d better let this line of Mary’s song have a day all to itself, because these words resound with one of my favorite promises in all of God’s Word. (He repeats it cover to cover, and I never tire of talking about it.) Feast with me, will you?

“He has filled the hungry with good things; and sent away the rich empty-handed.” (verse 53)

All who are full of themselves and their own sufficiency are sent away with nothing; but those who know they need God get to drink liberally from the well that never runs dry! Oh, the promise in those words! What’s more, if we confess that we aren’t hungry for Him but we want to be hungry for Him, He is willing to meet us there and help jumpstart that desire. Our part is to own our need.

18) However hungry we are for God, let’s compose a prayer asking Him to stoke our appetite for all things Jesus!

Shellie
