Aunt Sandy’s Red Cinnamon Candy

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus. Welcome back to the All Things Southern kitchen, y’all! Many of your have tried my Lemon Bark Candy and from the feedback I’m getting, it was a big hit! I’m feeling mighty appreciated, and may I add, eager to share another family recipe. This one belongs to Phil’s sister. Aunt Sandy has been making her Cinnamon Christmas Candy for years. If you’re a cinnamon fan, this one’s for you! Come on, I’ll walk y’all through it.

Aunt Sandy’s Red Cinnamon Candy

3 and ¾ cup sugar

1 and ½ cup light corn syrup

1 cup water

Red food coloring

Powdered sugar

1 and ½ teaspoons of cinnamon oil

We’ll begin by preparing our cookie sheet. We’ll sprinkle it lightly with powdered sugar and set it aside.

For our candy, we’ll take a small boiler and combine 3 and ¾ cup sugar with 1 and ½ cups of light corn syrup and a cup of water. We’ll mix this well and heat it over a medium fire.

Once it reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer, we’ll remove it from the heat and add one and ½ teaspoons of cinnamon oil and enough red food coloring to turn it a bright red. We’ll pour it immediately over our cookie sheet with the powered sugar and let it harden. Then we’ll crack it up into small bite-size irregular pieces.

Thanks, Aunt Sandy! Enjoy my Cinnamon Christmas Candy, y’all. It’s good eating from the All Things Southern kitchen to yours!
