About this election? Breathe

How long has it been since you looked up? No, not from your smart phone, but that, too. When was the last time you tilted your sweet tired stressed head back and looked straight up into the endless expanse of the sky above us? If you can go outside and do that now, please do. I’ll wait.

If you’re driving, or you couldn’t do it right now for other reasons, I hope you’ll do it soon. And when you do, I hope you’ll consider the eternal God who holds all of us in His hands. We’re not on auto-pilot. God didn’t put this planet in motion and go fishing on another. He’s got this.

Yes, even the election.
Breathe.

He told us things would be perilous before His return. We don’t have to look far to find perilous, amen? But lean in and hear this, believer. He also told us that before this thing is done He would Himself vindicate, magnify, and sanctify His great name before the nations. We live in dark times– but we also live in amazing times. God WINS this thing, y’all, the whole thing.

Which brings me back to that election.

There’s a timely lesson found in the book of Daniel. God once took an arrogant prideful evil King named Nebuchadnezzar, stripped him of his reason and brought him to his bony hairy knees, until that very man rose up and proclaimed to his nation that God alone is God of heaven and earth and He does what He pleases. It is nothing for our God to do it again.

“If my people, who are called by my name…”

I’m praying that this perilous time would finally be the catalyst that calls us to humble ourselves before God and pray. I’m praying we will give up hand-wringing for knee bending.

We’ve been called as a people to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Our assignment hasn’t changed with the times. So, unless He has specifically tasked you to be the voice of doom, might I respectfully charge you to refuse fear, choose peace, and pray. Oh, and LOOK up.

Hugs, Shellie
